Singer Britney Spears responded to repercussions after evidently body-shaming Christina Aguilera and her backup dancers.
“By no means was I being critical of Christina’s beautiful body, it is what it is !!! I flew to see her show once and the main thing I noticed was the difference of our people on stage !!!” the “Crazy” singer, 40, insisted in a Tuesday Instagram post.
“By no means did I even mention Christina, look at my post !!! I was inspired by her show and she is a beautiful woman of power … Thank you @xtina for inspiring me !!!”
Britney went on to make it clear that she didn’t mean to “be critical of anybody.”
Spears preferred to see her original post as “a projection of the insecurities I deal with all the time as a result of how my parents and the media have treated me.”
The pop star maintain that she would “never intentionally body shame anybody” because she “knows what it feels like” to be judged for her appearance.
“I struggle with this because of how I feel about myself, not because I hate how anybody looks,” she went on to say.
Britney said she meant to make the point that she felt her estranged family “purposefully” stroked her insecurities by not permitting her to have “a choice in the people who were on stage with me” during her nearly 13-year conservatorship. The controversial legal arrangement finally came to an end in November 2021.
She concluded her post by saying “I appreciate you all being understanding with me as I figure out this new life I’m living !!!”, which was accompanied by a drawing of two fairies holding hands.
Britney posted a long caption on Monday that read in part, “If I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small.”
The “Toxic” singer’s message came alongside a quote she accredited to Rodney Dangerfield that read, “I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people.”
The instagram post, which remained on her page as of Tuesday afternoon, was met with major criticism.
“Body shaming others is not the move,” one user commented, and many others agreed.
“You need to delete this,” another advised.
Christina Aguilera, 41, has since unfollowed Britney Spears on IG, her longtime industry rival and former “All New Mickey Mouse Club” castmate.
