In a letter to the judge, one of his alleged victims Joycelyn Savage reveals she is engaged to be married to singer R. Kelly but her family says they were not informed of this news.
According to legal documents, obtained by Media Music News, Savage disclosed the engagement by writing, “I’m Robert Kelly’s fiance” in her letter to the federal judge prior to Kelly sentencing. The document, which she wrote asking the judge for a lesser sentence, doesn’t reveal when they got engaged.
In the document, she mentions, “I’m not the victim that the government has portrayed me to be.”
She also added that her relationship with the singer is “amazing,” mentioning he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to her. Joycelyn claims he always made a point to make sure her needs were met, as well as “any other women he was with.”
Gerald Griggs, a lawyer for Joycelyn’s parents, tells Media Music News, she never told the family about the engagement, and she has never even spoken about the possibility of a marriage with Kelly.
Griggs revealed he finds it odd Savage didn’t testify about it while under oath, and instead included it in the letter submitted to the court. Joycelyn’s family “strongly doubts” the engagement news and are hoping to reconnect with her to get the more information.
The family do admit it isn’t unusual for Savage to keep this news from her parents. Griggs mentions she hasn’t really spoken to her family since she left to be with R. Kelly.
